We have a wide range of TVs for sale at competitive prices from a variety of well-known manufacturers. However, what does all the TV terminology mean? Let's go over a few key areas in our Television Guide, that will help you make your choice...
What is 1080p, Ultra 4K and 8K TV?
The terms 1080p, Ultra 4K (UHD) and 8K relates to the resolution (number of pixels) on the screen. The higher the number of pixels, the higher the quality of detail within the image. 1080p for example features 1920 pixels along the horizontal axis and 1080 in the vertical of a television screen. Ultra 4K 3840x2160 and 8K with a mammoth 7680x4320 resolution.

What is a OLED, QLED and LED TV?
The way in which the television image is created is determined by the screen technology powering it. There are various options that all have their own advantages. LED is simply the term that represents the vast majority of televisions on the market, providing a good all round picture suitable for any room. Moving up the price scale, you will then come across the premium standards which include OLED, renowned for its perfect black representation, as each pixel emits its own light creating the deepest blacks and vibrant colours without any ghosting artifacts. QLED which features on many Samsung TVs, feature extremely bright representations of light and attractive colour accuracy.

What is HDR, HDR 10+, HLG and Dolby Vision?
HDR (also known as HDR 10) is an acronym of High Dynamic Range - one of the most important advances in television technology in literally decades. HDR provides the television with additional information of how to display an image on the screen, to produce far brighter and deeper colours - with far more depth within a scene than we have ever had the ability to see before. HDR 10+ extends this even further, allowing TV and movie studios to change the key values that control the brightness and colours within each individual scene, rather than being limited to one set of values for a whole show or film. Dolby Vision is the popular premium choice for studios, providing carefully tuned details that will bring out the very best picture quality available. HLG is a format created by the BBC and NHK, to provide HDR content over live television events, while still allowing TVs without any HDR capabilities to view the standard transmission without the need for seperate channels.
What is a Smart TV?
A Smart TV features a number of built in apps, which can include BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, YouTube, Netflix and a wide variety of other media streaming services. As the apps are built in to your television, there is no need to purchase any additional hardware to experience the very best streaming video options. A Smart TV can also include TV recording functionality, by inserting a USB stick into the TVs USP port to store your favourite shows and movies and watch back in comfort when you are free.
